This picture to me truly says American. It reminds me of the joy and just all around good feelings one can have. This photo was taken after the second world war at Time Square in New York. A sailor kissing a nurse is something I just really believe to be amazing. The complete atmosphere and emotion of this picture just says to me that the sailor is glad to be home and alive and I think that during this time the citizens were too.
This is a picture from the 1969 Lunar moon landing. This is one of, not only Americas, but the world's achievements. A lot can be said about this picture, there were so many doubts about whether or not people should be going to the moon. This advancement in science and technology really helped shape the coming events in the United States. Thanks to the moon landing it not only brought about the space race, but also the race for supremacy between the worlds greatest countries. Each country was striving for more and none of them seemed to be satisfied with being second. I think that because of this exploration of the outside world, it led to the slow destruction of humanity in a way that can't be fixed. This picture was taken in 1930 in Indiana. The story is that two young black men (pictured here) were hung by an angry mob of 10,000 white people for the suspected crime of raping a white girl. No evidence was ever shown to prove the two mens innocence or guilt. There was also a third man thought to be involved but the girl that was said to be a victim, her uncle proclaimed the mans innocence. Pictures like this really make me think what was wrong with America back then. It kills me to think that not even a hundered years ago, which isn't long when you talk about history, there were people treated horribly and killed for no reason just because the color of their skin. America was suppose to be "the land of the free and home of the brave" and yet their own citizens were being scrutanized for something that they couldnt control. Its unbelieveable. Some people think that racial issues arent as bad as they were, say 50 years ago, and thats true. But there are still problems concerning it, sometimes people just cant get past the color of ones skin and I truly believe it is a horrible way to live.
