This picture is of an Afghan girl from 1984, the reason I chose this picture is to show that even though her culture is very different from ours and their customs as well, she looks like any other girl in America that you could see walking down the street or through the halls of school. The women is Afighanistan are very modest, there are laws forbidding them to show any part of their body except their eyes (obviously to see), but also they are to walk behind the men and keep their heads down. So freedom is not something many of them think about let alone try to protest for. I love this picture not only for the quality of the photo but also you can tell just by looking at her that there is a whole other life that she lives filled with tourture, danger, and fear. The girl in the picture was around 12 when it was taken and the photographers were unable to find out her name until 1992. Her picture made the cover of National Geographic the next year (1985). This photo was taken by Steve McCurry.Thursday, September 17, 2009
